BabyNamesMatch (babynamesmatch.com) is a free web app for choosing a baby name with your partner. This page explains what we store, why, and for how long. Questions: contact@babynamesmatch.com.
No account, no personal details
You don't sign up and we never ask for your email, phone number or full name. The only thing you type is a first name or nickname, which your partner sees in the game.
What we store to run a game
A random identifier created by your browser, so the game recognises you when you come back (it is not linked to who you are); the nickname you type; your swipes (like, pass, super-like) and your matches; and the game's settings (boy or girl names, language, country).
Games are stored with our hosting provider, Cloudflare, in a database in Western Europe. A game is deleted automatically 14 days after anyone last opened it, or at once when either of you chooses “Discard progress”.
On your device
Your browser keeps the random identifier, your nickname, your current game, the language you picked (a cookie named bnm_locale, kept for one year), whether you closed the language suggestion, and your country code (to suggest a language and preselect your country's names). None of this is used to track you across sites. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Security and abuse prevention
To stop abuse (for example, a script creating thousands of games), we count requests per device and per network address. The network address is stored only as a one-way code that changes every day, and these counters are deleted after one day.
Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the site; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. We use the country Cloudflare detects only to choose a language and suggest a country; we don't store it.
Reporting a wrong meaning
If you report a wrong name meaning, we store the name, the language, your optional message, the time and the random identifier, only to review the report.
Advertising
The site is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or device identifiers to show ads, limit how often you see them and measure them, and, if you allow it, to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent first through Google's consent message, and you can change your choice at any time. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services and manage personalised ads at My Ad Center.
What we don't do
We don't sell or share your data, we don't use analytics or tracking tools of our own, and we don't ask for anything we don't need.
Children
BabyNamesMatch is made for adults expecting a baby. It is not directed at children under 16.
Your choices
Because we don't know who you are, the easiest way to remove your data is “Discard progress” in the game menu, and clearing this site's data in your browser. For any other request about your data, write to contact@babynamesmatch.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date above.
